March 13, in his 63, a gifted mathematician, director of the Institute of Mathematics of National Academy of Sciences, corresponding member Valery H. Martirosyan met an untimely end. V. Martirosyan received his initiation into Mathematics at the Mathematics and Mechanics Department of Yerevan State University (1966-71). In the years of study he was honored with a State Lenin scholarship for his good grades. Then, in 1974 he finished postgraduate studies at the State Teacher's training Institute for the speciality Analysis. In 1974 -1975 he worked at the Institute of Mathematics as a junior, senior, then the leading researcher in the Department of Approximation Theory. Here in 1978 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, and in 1989 at Tbilisi State University his doctoral.
In 1992-2000, working as a professor at the Chair of Function Theory of the Department of Mathematics of YSU he continued in 2000-2011 his scientific-pedagogical activity in the same place as a Chair, enjoying the respect of his colleagues and staff. In those years, he read a number of basic and specialized courses, and led numerous course and diploma works. Under his supervision three PhD theses were defended.
Since 1992, V. Martirosyan has worked in the Institute of Mathematics of NAS as a leading researcher, and in 2011 he was elected a director of the Institute.
V. Martirosyan's research interests are mainly related to the fields of Approximation theory and Complex Analysis in the complex domain, where he created new methods of research and received a number of high-quality, internationally recognized results. He was actively involved in the work of international conferences, has a number of scientific articles with his German counterparts, published in international journals. In 2006, he was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences for his fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity. Unfortunately, his premature death left unfinished a number of research programs.
