The Newton polyhedron in general theory of differential equations

We investigate the role of the Newton polyhedron $N$ of polynomial $P$ (of a linear differential operator $P(D)$) in behaviour of $P$at infinity and in (almost) hypoelliptisity of operator $P(D)$.
